What ChatGPT Can't Do for YouTube Videos

In short
- ChatGPT is the better tool for ideation, scripting, one-off requests, and low upload volumes.
- Growati is the better tool for reading the video file, batch runs, brand consistency, and anything that publishes to a live channel.
- Growati starts at $19/month and has no free tier; ChatGPT has a free tier and Plus at around $20/month.
Most comparison posts written by a company about its own competitor are useless, because the company wins every row. This one has rows we lose, including some we lose badly. That's not modesty, it's the only way a comparison is worth reading.
Quick framing before the table: Growati is built on frontier models, including GPT and Claude. So this isn't "our AI versus their AI." It's a chat interface versus a purpose-built pipeline, both driving similar engines.
The table

Where ChatGPT genuinely wins
Everything before the export. Ideas, angles, hook variations, script drafts, research, competitor teardowns, thinking out loud about whether a video is worth making. Growati does none of this and has no plans to. If you want fifty title concepts for a video you haven't shot yet, that's a ChatGPT job.
Flexibility. Growati runs five pipeline templates. ChatGPT runs whatever you can describe. When you want something odd and one-off — reformat this description as a numbered list, but in Spanish, for a client — the chat window wins and it isn't close.
Cost at low volume. Two uploads a month, one channel: ChatGPT Plus is the better purchase, and there's a free tier underneath it. We don't have one.
It's already open. Zero setup, no OAuth, no connected channel. That matters more than feature tables usually admit.
Where Growati wins
Anything involving the actual video file. Thumbnail frame selection is the clearest case. ChatGPT can't decode an MP4, so when you ask it for the best frame it answers from your title and description. Growati downloads the video, splits it at real scene changes, and scores candidate frames on subject framing, face quality, blur, and semantic fit to the video's content.
Anything that has to happen sixty times. A back catalogue is sixty conversations in a chat window. It's one batch run here.
Anything that has to be consistent. Your brand profile is stored once — tone, forbidden words, title style and length, description template, chapter detail level, thumbnail philosophy — and read on every run. Consistency across a hundred uploads is a storage problem, not a writing problem, and a chat window isn't storage.
Anything that touches the live channel. Review before publish, a record of what the metadata was, and rollback. This is the difference between a tool that suggests and a tool that acts, and it's the reason acting responsibly needs infrastructure a chat log doesn't have.
Use ChatGPT if
You upload occasionally. You want help with ideas and scripts more than with metadata. You like doing your own titles. You run one channel and the whole optimisation pass takes you twenty minutes.
Use Growati if
You upload weekly or more. You run more than one channel, or manage channels for other people. You have a library of older videos with metadata you'd never write today. You've noticed that the thing you skip when you're behind schedule is always the thumbnail.
Most people should run both
We don't think this is a replacement decision, and the compare pages we've written against TubeBuddy, VidIQ and Spotter Studio say something similar for different reasons. The creators who get the most out of Growati still open ChatGPT every week — for the parts of the job that happen before the render finishes.
The handoff point is the export. Everything upstream of it is a chat job. Everything downstream of it is a pipeline job.
Comparing us against Claude, Gemini or Perplexity instead? Gemini in particular changes the answer, because it can actually analyse your footage - that comparison is here.
If you want the longer version of why we think that split is real rather than convenient, we wrote about it here.
